Bella’s 5th Birthday Party!

This past week has just been a whirlwind of running around and getting ready for Bella’s Birthday party on Saturday.  I had these grand plans to make this cupcake tiered birthday cake but had a few bumps along the way.  It started out on Friday night, we had picked up a pizza to throw in the oven so we didn’t have to make dinner and…I burned it!  So then I move onto making the cupcakes, luckily those came out perfect.  I was going to make this icing for the cupcakes called 7 minute icing.  I’ve made it before a long time ago and it’s my favorite icing…kinda like marshmallow fluff!

Anyway, my aunt who is visiting is sitting there watching me make this icing which requires you to use a double boiler system and beat the ingredients for 7-minutes.  I was about 2 minutes into it and POP the Pyrex bowl shatters!  It’s 10PM and really don’t feel like going to the store to get icing.  So I called my husband and tell him he needs to pick some up on the way to my mom’s house the next day.   I don’t get my 7-minute icing so I’ll have to settle for store bought…no problem!

I let the bowl cool for a while and instead of moving the bowl and pan over to the sink I proceed to pick the Pyrex bowl up out of the pan while its on the stove, the bottom falls out of the bowl and corn syrup, sugar and egg whites go splashing all over the place!  So now I need to strain the glass pieces out of the pan before I can wash it.  I get the strainer out and hold the dripping pan over the strainer and walk it to the sink.  All the while my aunt is sitting there laughing hysterically at me because I used a strainer to catch the drips from the pan LOL!!!!  Total DUH moment for me!   Took me a while to clean up the sticky mess but after that I decided to quit for the night and start over in the morning.

The next day went MUCH better.  I frosted the cupcakes with store bought icing and they looked fabulous!  I just need to keep reminding myself that I’m NOT a baker.  As much as I would love to be able to bake and decorate cakes from scratch, it’s just never gonna happen.

I have to give much thanks to my friend Jacki for helping with the streamers and everything else they looked awesome!  If she hadn’t been there to help me I would have still been running around in my pajamas, hair disheveled and no makeup by the time the guests arrived!

I have to say the best part of the day was after all the kids left and the adults got to go jump in the bounce house!!!!  It’s really good exercise too BTW.

Here’s some pics from the party!

The party favor buckets…I had grand plans for these too but ran out
of time.  I did get to use my Crop-O-Dile on them…it really does go
through metal!

So Happy to be 5!!!!

Someone coined this the "Pullata" because it wasn’t exactly a Pinata…you don’t whack it with a bat…you just line up and pull the strings on the bottom…very unexciting if you ask me and I guess I didn’t know that’s what the strings were for when I bought it.  I thought they were just for show.  Oh well, I guess we didn’t have to worry about the kids whacking each other with a baseball bat that way! LOL

  1. Hey Chere! Glad to hear your party ended up being a success. You probably bit it with all the baking mishaps just because your aunt was there! If she hadn’t been there I bet nothing would have gone wrong. Ain’t that just the way it always goes?
Anyway, glad it all went well. Are you coming on Saturday? 🙂 I hope so!

  2. Bello looks so Happy! and what beautiful work you did to make her party so pink and festive- everything is so pretty- like what you woudl see in a mag or soemthing. sorry Chere, but I had to chuckle a little bit about the stainer to carry the icing drippings to the sink 😉

  4. The party was super fun–thanks for having us. It looked like Bella had a blast too. And you could have had us fooled that you weren’t a baker–the cupcakes tasted great. Love the “pullata” term…LOL!!!

  5. This blog is so cool, Chere! I love how you added the pics in and told the story of her day! And how sweet that you thanked me personally, although I don’t know how much credit I can take. I’m glad I was helpful, though. 🙂 That WAS a fun day!!

  6. LOL at the baking episode Chere, it is a good job you have a great sense of humour, I had a hard time imagining your cupcake tower but I have to say it is the most gorgeous thing, the whole party looked so pretty and girly
